FSM VORTEX GRIT CLASSIFIER
Most if not all of grit classifiers available over the last thrirty years have incorporated a cyclone separator to reduce the pumped flow rate entering the standard grit screw classifier inlet headbox. The reason being that the headbox on a typical classifier is too small for the full pumped flow range of 250 - 400 gpm and the cyclone flow splitter controls the volume of water / grit entering the headbox to its maximum capacity of 100 gpm.
The result is 100% of the pumped flow is recycled back to the grit trap. Accessing the cyclone discharge nozzle is not particularly easy, it requires taking off the connecting pipework and dismantling the cyclone. To overcome this source of maintenance downtime Waste-Tech Inc. has pioneered the FSM Vortex Grit Classifier designed to accept pumped grit flows up to 600 gpm without any hydraulic separation ahead of the vortex inlet headbox, therefore no cyclone required and no recycling of 80% of the pumped flow. |

The smallest openings on the FSM Vortex Grit Classifier are 4 inch diameter and plugging is never a problem. The vortex flow configuration mirrors the grit trap flow path for high grit capture efficiency and grit dewatering with the 45° inclined screw auger is optimized. The FSM Vortex Grit Classifier is totally enclosed and can be vented for odor control. Materials of construction are 304 stainless steel and hi tensile steel for long, maintenance free life. |
The problem with the cyclone is the discharge orifice is limited to 2 inch diameter and rags, popsicle sticks etc in the girt, especially if the grit trap is preceeded by bar screens, plug up the discharge orifice.
With the highest flow range of any grit classifier, vortex inlet configuration, large size ovedrflow bellmouth to minimize the surface overflow rate, large diamtere headbox and high efficiency dewatering / transportation tubular auger, the FSM Vortex Grit Classifier provides a new standard for grit classifiers. The FSM VGC35 classifier can be provided with single or duplex inlet connections to serve one or two grit traps.
