FSM GRIT WASHER

The FSM Grit Washer Unit is of modular construction. The basic version is used to process grit from separating tanks. The unit can be fed via pumps, air jet lifts or grit channels. If a special bunker with a sand feeding device is located upstream, the Grit Washer Unit can be used to receive and process sewer flushing grit. If in addition, a separating and washing drum is interposed between the the bunker and the Grit Washer Unit, sweet sweepings from sweeping machines can be disposed of.

The sedimented grit and the remaining organic matter contained in it is washed via an up current classifying process using feed water which is substantially free of BOD and COD. The washed out coarse clay and the remaining organics are automatically drawn off.

The water consumption is approximately 1.5 l/s for the up current classifying process and 1.7 l/s for the washing nozzles in the screening and separating drum.

An ancillary unit can used to provide an independant supply of wash water to the screening and separating drum, so that the demand for imported water is reduced to 1.5 l/s ( for the up current classifying process ).

The screening drum and wash separator can be located apart from one another, if necessary for space reasons.

The Grit Washer Unit SWA30 comprises the basic modules:

Screening and separating drum

Wash separator

The entry point is at the screening drum. Coarse material and larger organic material are removed by the sceening drum. Grit and organic matter are washed out and fed to the wash separator. As a result of the guided flow, organic matter is held suspended and discharged, while the grit settles in the container.

Organic matter is washed away from inorganic matter in the screening drum and withdrawn (organic matter > 3 mm dia.) These screenings cannot then lead to any further disturbance in the sewage treatment works.

The water is fed with organic matter to the outlet of the grit washing container.

Very fine grit is withdrawn and not fed to the sewage treatment plant with the outlet water.

The dried output grit contains less than 3% volatile solids.
